The Iowa flag was designed by Dixie Cornell Gebhardt in 1917 in yet another contest set up by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The winning flag design was adopted in 1921 and is on a background of three vertical stripes, red, white and blue. These represent Iowa's part in the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. The blue stripe represents loyalty, truth and justice. The white stripe represents purity, and the red stripe stands for courage. A flying eagle with a scroll in its mouth, taken from the state seal, is centred on the flag above the word, Iowa.
Our state flags are made from 100% high quality nylon, specially made for flags, is UV resistant and does well in all weather conditions.
